- The first step is to go to and add your flight by entering your cell phone number. You’ll see a popup asking for information about you and your flight plans for you to register as a traveler.
- A confirmation message that says, “On-boarding Complete” will appear right after completing the following steps.
- Within the following 24 hours, someone from the Backpack Traveler Experience Team will contact you over the phone to confirm your luggage space.
- You’ll then be asked to send your itinerary and photo ID to the Backpack Support Desk, and we’ll have them verified quickly.
- Next, you'll have to make the purchase payment for your assigned items and we will be providing updates at regular intervals about items that are due to be delivered to your address; we’d need you to keep an eye out for our notifications and when items arrive, simply collect them and confirm that you have received them.
- In order to collect your items as soon as they arrive:
- Check your mailbox, doorstep, outside your home.
- Check notices from USPS, UPS, FedEx.
- Bring liquid items and books wrapped in plastic bags.
- Carry all the fragile, sensitive, soft or small items in a pouch or your handbag or carry on.
Before boarding your flight
Clicking on the I received the products button primarily notifies the shoppers that their requested items are safely tucked away in your luggage. You’d be surprised to know how relieved shoppers feel knowing that the items have not only reached you safely but are also accounted for and are on their way with only a few steps remaining. More often than not, this one simple button separates the shopper experience from being magical to downright worrying. Additionally, our team needs to see the button pressed to help us track the purchased items better. You see, in case the button isn’t pressed past a delivery deadline, we’ll know something has gone wrong with the delivery and can react quickly and effectively to the situation taking corrective measures.
Excess weight charge
In case you are charged with excess weight, all you need to do is provide us with the document for your excess luggage fee within 3 days of being charged. We will validate the documents you provide us with over the next 3 days and reimburse the amount that has been charged to your account.
We typically don’t send any taxable items for you to carry. However, if there is a customs charge involved, it is the travelers' responsibility to declare and pay duties. From our experiences with thousands of travelers, the traveler fees you'd receive remain very attractive regardless of any duties.
If an item is already broken when it arrives at your address, we’d need you to notify us before your flight. If an item sustains damage during transit and is entirely unintentional, you wouldn’t need to pay for the damages. On the other hand, if an item is damaged or is left behind before your flight, you’d need to contact us immediately. Only after thoroughly evaluating the extent and cause of damage, you may or may not have to pay a charge for damages.
Nature of items to be carried
At Backpack, facilitating a comfortable travel experience is something we highly value. So we go to great lengths to ensure that we send only those items which any traveler can carry without having to face complications legal or otherwise.
You can check each of the items that will be delivered to your address beforehand, Once before they arrive through the item link and again physically once they have been delivered. In case you decide to open the item packaging, you’d need to be very careful that you repack it without damaging either the item or the packaging.

Our team goes to great lengths to ensure that the weight measurements of the items we purchase are as accurate as possible and that exactly 23 kg worth of items are to be delivered to your address.
To unbox or not to unbox
As a marketplace connecting shoppers and travelers, ensuring maximum reliability is one of our highest priorities you can check each item but you have to keep the original packaging intact because for shoppers this means that when they request an item through us, they expect to receive it in mint condition; that means the item needs to reach their hands in its original packaging intact. Also, some of our shoppers are hardcore collectors, buying items which, if removed from their boxes, will lose their entire value as a collectible. Taking these into consideration, it’s quite important that you bring the item in its original packaging and if there is ever any need for discussion, please don’t hesitate to contact a Backpack agent.
At the airport post-landing
Collecting your luggage
A Backpack operative will be waiting outside the airport to receive the luggage from you.
In case a luggage bag gets misplaced, we’ll need you to provide us with valid documents that have been issued by the airlines. We’d also need your help collecting compensation from the airlines' authorities for the loss.
In terms of customs, it is the travelers' responsibility to declare and pay duties. From our experiences with thousands of travelers, the traveler fees you'd receive remain very attractive regardless of any duties. We also provide a hotline number to our travelers in case they need any form of assistance at the airport.

Backpack is a marketplace connecting shoppers and travelers, where shoppers place purchase requests and travelers buy those items on their behalf. Ideally, our travelers would pay for these requested items themselves and would collect their reimbursement once they arrive in Bangladesh since shoppers’ payments are collected in BDT. However, to help our travelers avoid hassle while buying numerous items, we opt to make those purchases ourselves while you only provide us with the payment needed to buy the items. Rest assured we will be paying back the equivalent amount in BDT within 3 days of you landing in Bangladesh. I hope I was able to clarify, thanks!
You can make your purchase payment through any of the available methods: bank deposit, PayPal, credit card, debit card and online fund transfer.
Receiving earnings back home
Backpack basically works to connect a shopper with a traveler after the shopper places a purchase request through our site. It’s a lot like when your cousin asks you to bring back a gadget from the US and pays you back once you arrive in Bangladesh. The exception is that the there is a 21% backpack fee to cover traveler and miscellaneous costs. The shopper’s payment received in BDT remains in Bangladesh reserved by Backpack. After we have received the items from you in Bangladesh, we will issue your payment from that reserve within the next 7 banking days.
When processing your reimbursement of the deposited amount, we will always take the bank’s highest USD selling rate for the current day.
Ensuring privacy is something we take very seriously. We only share minimal information with shoppers and keep most of the data protected behind state-of-the-art security protocols with access to limited team members under confidentiality agreements.
